Mariah + Taylors November Wedding at Grand Island Mansion

Fall weddings are simply the best in Sacramento… perfect weather, beautiful lighting and everyone still has a lingering tan from the summer months. Lol! This particular evening wedding at Grand Island Mansion had us starting our groom’s photos in Courtland, just about 10 min away from the mansion, so we could get a head start on our wedding coverage prior to the Grand Island Mansion’s preferred arrival time of 4:30p. I do enjoy the old pioneer towns around Sacramento for portraiture in general, but that blue wall has become a staple if I shoot there…. this left the majority of the time prior to the ceremony for the bride’s photos. Mariah chose the Lizst Suite to get ready…. a pretty popular room for most brides getting married at the GIM, as it has plenty of floor space, the most window light for a brighter look and a clear view of the ceremony site to peek in as guests arrive.
Most of the time when couples are getting married during the winter months, I might recommend a first look to take advantage of having light for their couple’s portraits around the mansion grounds, the nice thing with November, is that it’s not quite dark yet after the ceremony that we can still get the sunset lighting right after the ceremony with a quick round of family photos. 🙂
